Summary
The Marien-Hospital is a modern hospital
with nearly 150 years tradition. It is continuously adjusting to
the demands of modern medicine and the requirements of the over
16,000 inpatients, who receive treatment and care partly in
highly specialised areas every year.
The technical and constructural equipment of the hospital are
being improved continuously. The Marien-Hospital Witten has one
of the most state-of-the-art intensive care units in the country
and also a new centre for the treatment of cardiovascular
diseases as well as a new hospital kitchen.
It is one of few hospitals in North Rhine-Westphalia which has
recently become an accredited breast centre. Therefore, women
suffering with breast cancer receive optimal treatment as a
result of a long experience of the gynaecological hospital in
the area of breast surgery.
At the same time the hospital relies strongly on continuity. The
catholic parish St. Marien founded the hospital in 1858 with the
Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent of Paul de Paderborn assuming
the responsibility for patient care. The care for patients and
their relatives and the solidarity with everyone active in the
hospital is based on Christian principles and guidelines.
